WALNUTS

Walnuts contains alpha-linolenic acid, and plant-based omega 3 fatty acid. They also contain folate, Vitamin E, antioxidants L-arginine, vitamin-E, fiber and other phytochemicals. Researchers have found them to have antioxidant, anti cancer, anti viral and anti high cholesterol properties. Alpha-linolenic acid is beneficial for heart and brain.

They are also said good to shed weight. A diet containing unsaturated fatty acid such as which is found in walnuts is said to lose those extra kilos.

New research has concluded that Walnut is useful in improving the mood and more so in young men. This conclusion was made by research on 64 students who weighed between 18 and 25. The were told to have banana bread for sixteen weeks, eight weeks banana bread with walnuts and eight week without walnut. Peter Pribis Professor at the University of New Mexico lead the research.

Walnuts contain generous amounts of arginine, an amino acid, it helps the liver in flushing out ammonia. Walnuts also contain glutathione, beneficial in cleansing the liver.

Walnuts also improves memory. Regular consumption of walnuts reduces cancer of colon, prostate, kidney and breast. Since Walnut contains significant amount of copper, they help reduce the risk of osteoporosis.
