In winter skins surface is dehydrated due to drop in temperature and humidity which leads to altered barrier function on the skins surface Itchy skin is a common problem is winter. However, causes for this can range from dry weather, poor hygiene to dandruff. Further winter brings along with it chapped lips, dry skin and cracked heels. However, many of the harmful effects of winter can be reduced with proper care and precautions.
Further avoid bath with warm water. Instead of warm water, use lukewarm water to maintain hydration of skin.
DIET IN WINTER
The best way to keep your skin healthy in winter is to ensure good nutrition and proper hydration.Hence consume lots of fresh vegetables along with sufficient intake of water. Foods containing beta carotene (yellow and orange in color) like papaya, orange carrot yellow and red capsicum, peach, pineapple, sweet potato, radish, spinach, lettuce(purple) pumpkin etc are good to keep skin barrier intact and also to prevent dryness. Further drink two liters of water daily. Avoid fried and sweet foods. Do not expose yourself to excess sunlight as it breaks the skin barrier.
HAVE ENOUGH WATER-DON’T CONFUSE THIRST FOR HUNGER
We tend to eat more during the winter because we feel hungry often. People feel less thirsty during the winters because they aren’t sweating due to the cold temperature. Our body requires lots of water and when this requirement isn’t fulfilled we misunderstand thirst for hunger and eat more than necessary. Therefore it is imperative to have enough water and not to confuse thirst for hunger.

Use a broader spectrum sunscreen that has UVA block. It acts like a protective layer to your skin.
AVOID
Avoid soap since it decreases natural moisturizers
Avoid taking steam during winter
Avoid exposing yourself to excess sunlight as it breaks the skin barrier.
CARE OF THE LIP DURING WINTER
If lips become dry don’t lick lip them since though it may give temporary relief, it actually worsens the condition. Use lip balm regularly since plain petroleum jelly wont work.
CARE OF YOUR FEET IN WINTER
Soaking your feet in hot water is beneficial during winter. Heat water and add an aromatic oil and dip your feet in it for 15 minutes. This will relax your nerves and drive the cold away.
TREAMENT FOR ITCH SKIN
Improving hygiene and taking care of dandruff can solve the problem. Further application of aloe vera gel over the affected area and wrapping it with clean cloth and then washing after 15-20 minutes can also be beneficial
